Purpose: The purpose of the project was to demonstrate the ability to translate contextual and policy analysis into a coherent spatial strategy, ensuring that identified strengths and weaknesses directly informed each intervention. It marked an important stage in developing a structured, evidence-led planning approach. Process: The project began with detailed site and policy analysis, examining Donnington’s riverside context, movement network, residential character and community infrastructure. Findings were synthesised into a SWOT that informed the Vision 2035 statement and objectives. Four key interventions were then developed: street reconfiguration prioritising bus movement and pedestrian safety; riverside activation and public realm enhancement; a mixed-use block introducing active frontage; and residential intensification reflecting local typologies. Proposals were tested through masterplanning, sections, elevations and perspective drawings to ensure spatial coherence and appropriate scale. Planning Rationale: The strategy sought to strengthen community infrastructure, activate underused riverside land and rebalance the movement hierarchy toward sustainable transport. Proposals were grounded in Local Plan priorities and existing facilities, ensuring policy alignment. Feedback highlighted the need for greater distinctiveness within the vision and further consideration of traffic implications and sequencing, reinforcing the importance of feasibility and wider systems thinking in planning practice. The brief focused on testing whether a development proposal could be realistically delivered within planning, economic and regulatory constraints. Purpose: The purpose of the project was to develop technical competency in financial appraisal while strengthening my understanding of how planning decisions interact with viability, risk and delivery. It marked a progression from spatial design thinking toward economically informed planning practice. Process: The project began with site and market analysis, reviewing planning policy requirements, development constraints and local demand. A detailed financial appraisal was undertaken to calculate development costs, projected revenues, profit margins and residual land value. Sensitivity testing was applied to assess risk exposure and the impact of variable inputs. SketchUp was used to model development massing and spatial assumptions, with Layout supporting scaled drawings and presentation outputs. The findings were critically interpreted within a planning framework to assess deliverability and strategic alignment. Planning Rationale: The appraisal demonstrated how policy requirements, design ambitions and planning obligations must be balanced against viability constraints. Brief: This group project required the production of a 12-minute documentary exploring the challenges and opportunities within Rivermead Nature Park. The site was identified as being physically inaccessible, underused and in poor condition. The brief centred on engaging with the local community to understand lived experiences and propose realistic strategies for revitalisation. Purpose: The purpose of the project was to combine spatial analysis with meaningful community engagement, using film as a medium to communicate planning challenges and potential interventions. It aimed to demonstrate how participatory processes can inform place-based regeneration strategies. Process: The project began with site visits and observational analysis to assess accessibility, maintenance issues and spatial quality. We conducted community engagement through interviews and conversations with local residents and stakeholders to understand perceptions of safety, usability and ecological value. These insights informed the narrative structure of the documentary, which combined filmed interviews, site footage and spatial analysis. Proposed improvements focused on enhancing accessibility, activating the waterfront, introducing community infrastructure and improving maintenance and safety. The documentary format required careful scripting, filming, editing and collaborative coordination. Planning Rationale: The strategy recognised that physical decline and perceived inaccessibility were limiting the park’s social and ecological potential. Revitalisation proposals prioritised inclusive access, improved pathways, better lighting, defined activity zones and strengthened connections to surrounding neighbourhoods.
